Cursor render problem

Asked by Isaak

I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a macbook pro late 2006 model, and in the beginning the cursor was fine but after shutting down and not powering on the macbook for a day, horizontal lines started appearing on the cursor. It seems like linux rendered it incorrectly after booting up. Maybe something remained in the memory. These lines follow the cursor everywhere so as I move it on the touchpad, the lines follow along with it. The lines start from the top of the cursor and extend two cursor lengths below it. I already tried updating with the system update and using synaptics package manager and installing some touchpad drivers. I also ran Ubuntu Tweaks janitor and cleaned everything. If you could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tested your RAM health?
What video chip do you use?

Thanks

how do you test RAM health? I've never encountered a RAM issue so I wouldn't know how to go about doing it. This macbook pro model uses ATI Mobility RADEON x1600. I've already tried installing the proper drivers for this graphics card but researched showed that ATI stop supporting this GPU. Thank you for responding.
