2 computers will not boot

Asked by ealthuis

I have two desk tops with kernel 3.2.0-32, they both ran fine, but after an automatic update today neither will start.

I, using the shift key, can get to the start menu, and start version 3.2.0-31 no problem.

Just tried to start kernel 3.2.0-32 using the shift key method, but no joy.

Both computers have NFS installed, one has NFS-server-kernel, the other has NFS-server-common. Neither istallation is completely finished. I believe today's update was to NFS.

Do they use proprietary video drivers?

I don't believe they do, however how do I check for that?

Both computers were upgraded to 12.04 last April, all subsequent updates were installed.
Both machines are considered "production computers"
Neither was used to experiment with 12.10
This not starting should not have happened.
