After installing Ubuntu on a Tohiba Qosmio x505 Q870, Cannot read screen when started

Asked by Paul Wetzel

I successfully installed Ubuntu using the windows installer along side of widows 7. When I boot into UBuntu, the screen is unreadable when it finishes booting. The computer uses an i7 processor and 8 gigs of memory and an 18.4 inch csreen. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Here is the model.

Thanks,

Paul

What is the output of:

sudo lshw -C display; lsb_release -a

The amount of RAM isn't very useful to us here but giving detail is never a bad thing :)

Thank you for your quick response. I ended up getting working right before my sleeping pill kicked in last night using the following method:

1. Booted Ubuntu into recovery mode by holding the shift key while selecting Ubuntu from my boot menu.
3. Clicked on System Settings.
2. Clicked on Additional Drivers where i was presented with my NVIDIA graphics card diver.
3. Clicked install.
4. The progress indicator would not completed and I could not close the indicator dialog, so I rebooted.
5. The driver installed successfully and my computer worked correctly.
