Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse not working stable

Asked by joeridoe

i have a combination of a Logitech K520 + mouse M310.
Sometimes , there is no issue to work with them, but most of the time both are not working stable:
the mousepointer does not move smoothly, or the keyboard does not type anymore. (or sometimes it takes 3 seconds before part of the characters come on screen).

It looks like this combination does not have a problem on my Ubuntu 11.04 system(32bit), but on my latest system Ubuntu Precise (64bit) it does not work properly.

searching in forums, i followed the advice to
1. update my kernel to 3.4.0
2. due to another bug (1036999), i got the advice to do an update/upgrade in recovery mode. So my system is up to date.

Logitech hates Linux, just an FYI. I suggest you avoid their products.

If you use the Unity2D session, is it any better?

Logitech is widely used , and has mature products. The more is gets sold, the bigger the change that issues get solved quickly in Ubuntu.
That is the reason why i bought this type of wireless keyboard.
I don't know what you mean with "Unity 2D session", but the layout with the icons at the left hand side are standard in Precise (12.04).
Since the system keeps generating error reports about Xorg, i still don't know for sure if the problem is due to this wireless combo, or due to my display interface that crashes. Anyway, if i connect a normal wired keyboard/mouse at that moment, there is no issue with those.

I just googled quickly your "Unity 2D", and their telling "pc's that do not have a driver with 3D acceleration cannot run Unity 2D".
I don't have a graphical card: i'm using the gpu of my intel i5 (or at least that is what i think it is using :-) )

When you come to log in, click the Ubuntu icon near your username and select the Ubuntu2D session. Does it help?

You may not have an external video card, but there is a GPU and no system will POST successfully, the fact that it is part of your CPU is irrelevant to the OS. It simply sees a GPU attached to the PCI express bus, just like an external card would. There is no difference to the system

The last session for each user is remembered, it should default to 2D each time

the unity2D did not solve the problem. It introduces other problems: when i start firefox, it is opened on my 1st screen. When i (try to) start typing, it seems like i "lock" my keyboard : it does not respond anymore, not even slow response. After that, typing is not possible anymore. I need to log out and log back in to get keyboard-response again.

However, when i start firefox, drag the window to my 2nd screen, there is no issue to use the keyboard.
Very weird behaviour. It's a pitty i don't know how to put some debug-tracing on , to see what is going wrong.

Hi ,
sorry for this question (no offense) but sometimes happen

Are your batteries ok ?
Is the wireless adapter in position to sees well the keyboard and mouse ?

I have LG wireless combo keyboard and mouse too , no problem at all. Worked flawlessly from the first time.
Thanks.

batteries are ok (brand new keyboard btw)
direct sight is an issue: it is a miditower in which the key is plugged in. The tower is on the ground. The keyboard is on the desk.

I don't think this unify hardware needs line-of-sight, because it uses bluetooth.

Since i'm getting error reports from the system (from the Xorg package), i suppose it is related to that , and not related to the keyboard not functioning well.

Can you help with this problem?
