Ubuntu 10.04 How to properly detect monitor

Asked by cmnorton

I am using Ubuntu 10.04. It won't detect my Acer V193 monitor, and I cannot get the wide variety of display settings I used to get. What tools can I use to detect my monitor and also find out what configuration it supports? My System76 system has Intel graphics.
Thanks.

I don't know what Precise is. I don't have anything special on my desktop. It's pretty vanilla.

I'm in a KVM environment, and my Windows system did something with the monitor, which has never happened again. Once I booted the Ubuntu system first, all was well.
