ubuntu 12.10 unstable: Fullscreen fails if it has to change resolution.
If I run any fullscreen app, such as games. If it has to switch say from 1280x720 to 1024x768 resolution the unity bar and gnome panel show.
The only way to avoid this is to have the same resolution as the game you are trying to run BEFORE you launch it..or you change the settings with the game to match your "default" resolution.
An example is trying to run Halo Demo.
If I don't change the resolution to 800x600 before I go into the game.
It fails to go into fullscreen.
However, if I have my resolution at 800x600 before I run the game. it correctly starts it up.
This also happens with native games.
So my theory is that the transition between resolutions has some kind of bug...really annoying at that.
