xubuntu boots to too high of screen resolution

Asked by Harleybkd

I'm running xubuntu 7.10 on a Compaq Ipaq Pentium 3 866mHz , 128mb Ram and 40GB hard drive. xubuntu recognized the video card as Intel 82815.
xubuntu boots into a higher screen resolution then is stable for the video card. When I did the install of xubuntu only video that was available was vga. (I had to do the text install because of my ram.) Once I log in the screen resolution changes to my selected 1024 x 768 and screen is fine. However when I try to open a terminal window xubuntu appears to try to go to a higher screen resolution and this causes xubuntu to crash and go back to the login screen.
I'm new to linux.
I'm hoping that there is a line that I can add in GRUB or some where to make xubuntu start at a lower screen resolution.

I discovered how new to Linux I really am. Discovered the solution in two places.
The first solution comes during the installation in the form of a boot command. boot: install vga=771. I didn't use this option.
The second solution I found is in the program itself. Under Applications, Settings, screens and graphics. Using that, I changed the screen resolution to 1024x768 and now the login screen is the proper resolution as well.
