Keyboard not responding for about 20 seconds at startup.

Asked by DP

Hi,

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 (the issue is the same on 32 and 64 bit versions) on an old (5.5 years) HP Pavilion DV2530el. I changed the HDD with a SSD and therefore the boot time is now quite low (10 seconds from power up to login screen).

However, when I get to the login screen and try to type the password of my user, I cannot type anything: I must wait for about 20 seconds: after that the keyboard works perfectly. Same issue if I use autologin and try to type something in the Dash.

I may mention that keyboard is working well in the BIOS, that mouse is working perfectly and that the keyboard does not suffer of any other issues after these "magic seconds" have passed. It looks like the system needs all that time to make the keyboard available to the user: can this be the case?

What can I do in order to understand what is happening? Could this be a bug of Ubuntu?

Thanks for your help.

If you wait until the keyboard becomes active then run:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; dmesg | tail -n 25

What is output?

Thanks
