Ubuntu 9.10 has not been supported for some time. You would be well-advised to upgrade to (or do a fresh install of) a currently supported Ubuntu release. Currently supported releases are 10.04 LTS, 11.04, 11.10, and 12.04 LTS. Upgrading might well fix this problem, and even if not, you subject yourself to substantial security risk by continuing to use a version of Ubuntu (or any operating system) that no long receives updates are security vulnerabilities are newly identified and exploited.

Can you help with this problem?
