Shows Wallpaper or Aubergine Screen on First Boot NO UI

Asked by Brandon Giesing

I am trying to install the latest release, 12.04, and I have tried both Wubi and Regular Installs.

When I do a Wubi Install, It boots up the first time and then goes to a Aubergine colored screen with the mouse cursor on it. You can't right click or type or even do any keyboard shortcuts.

When I boot up from the live desktop CD, it goes to the default wallpaper, again with the mouse cursor on top and can't do anything but move the mouse.

I am running it on a MSi A5000 laptop originally running Windows 7. I have a Data partition in addition to my Windows partition.
The Beta version of 12.04 worked on this laptop.

What should happen is I boot into a working OS that I can play with.

Okay I appeared to solved the problem by using the generic display driver...

But now it won't let me install the propitiatory one from Additional Drivers.
