Have you tested your RAM using memtest in Grub?

Hold shift at boot, select memtest from the grub menu. Let it run 20 mins or so. This is good:

This is bad:

mem test was 100 perercent pass. 1024 mb in slot 0 and 1024 mb in slot 1, also ECC was disabled, if that matters not sure what it means but seems like mem if fine,

freind of mine said something about windows regestry still being on the hard drive and posibly affecting the performance, said i should reformat the hard drive. not sure how to do that, could that be a posability and if so is there any way to get rid of windows regestry without formating?

Do you dual boot?

no dual boot, entire hard drive install.

Then there is no windows registry on the system anywhere at all. YOu formatted the drive when you installed Ubuntu.
