Installed 11.10 Now boots to blinking cursor and stops

Installed 11.10 Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite A-105.
I let it replace Windows.

The install finished without error.

Now it boots to a black screen with a blinking cursor and stops.

There is zero attempt to load anything.

When I boot with CD, I can see the files that were installed to the hard drive.

Press the shift key as it goes through post and you should get to the grub boot menu. Try booting into recovery mode and see if that works. If you can boot to a bash command prompt try updating the system - you will need a wired network connection:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
