Hi, I have installed ubuntu 10.04 LTS amd64 on my machine.. the monitor is AOC, around 22 inches.. I already have ubuntu 11.04 i386, which is working fine.. everything is fine except for the screen reslotuion.. under system-preferences-monitors, its 'Monitor : unknown' and highest resolution is 1280*1024 (5:4) which is not optimal for the screeen.. how to correct this? thanks..

Have you tried Oneiric or Precise liveCD / USB too?

Then I suggest you use that, your hardware clearly needs the newer drivers, xorg and kernel in oneiric...

I prefer 10.04 to 11.10... I am not a big fan of new developments of ubuntu, its kind of getting tablet-friendly and weird for desktops.. isn't there a way to get it right in 10.04 LTS? as a LTS, I guess there should be one...

*sigh* I knew you'd say that. Unity is not the ONE AND ONLY option i Ubuntu. If you install the xfce4 package, log off then log in to the xfce session at login it will look and feel like Gnome2.

I knew that would be coming!! already tried xfce4 and some other desktop environments, its kind of similar but a 'inferior substitute' at the best.. anyway we can discuss that later... right now the question remains ' isn't there a way to get it right in 10.04 LTS? as a LTS, I guess there should be one...'

I suggest you report a bug and say that the newer version help. KDE is just as feature rich as Gnome

Can you help with this problem?
