Resolution in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS will not go above 800x600.

Asked by John Holmes

Hello,

I recently successfully installed 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a System76 Serval Professional (a computer designed expressly for running Ubuntu.) It's working well, but I've encountered at least one problem right off the bat--the display. For whatever reason, I can't get it to go above 800x600. I've only really been using the GUI monitor manager for this, to be fair, but it's an annoying problem all the same--my computer's top-end resolution is 1920x1080, and I'd like to take advantage of that as much as possible.

Oneiric install doesn't work at all (a separate problem entirely). Haven't tried with Precise--a little reticent to install an incomplete beta as what is going to be my primary OS.
