ubuntu 10.04 lts login problem

Asked by amit

I have installed ubuntu 10.04 lts from media. I also checked media for errors but no errors. I have installed on intel celeron 2.0 ghz pc with 512 mb ram, 40gb hdd, dvd rom. Installation was ok without any errors. but after finalisation when i restarted pc ubuntu user login screen appears. when i enter login name and password the screen goes for some time, background screen remains the same and again login screen appears. It continuously happens when i enter username and password. This is the only os on my pc. I tried to run from recovery console. it works. but shows "running in low graphics mode" message.
Pl solve the problem.

Could you boot on terminal mode directly (sorry, I forget how to do this. You need first to go to recovery mode). You will have a prompt asking you to login. Could you login and note error messages.
A possibility is that your login configuration is corrupted, and login failed. In this case, gdm (the graphic login screen screen) will take back the hand but will also mask error messages.

What GPU do you have?

If you log into the Unity2D session, is it ok?

Oh you used Lucid. Try a different session from the login. Why install Lucid?
