No X login for ldap users after upgrade to 11.10

Asked by Nicoinn

I'm running a small network of ubuntu 11.04 machines using a centralized ldap login.

After upgrade from natty to oneiric, ldap user cannot login graphically anymore. After login, the system gets stuck on the Ubuntu background waiting for the desktop to load. The problem appears for both lightdm and gdm, for ubuntu, ubuntu 2D or gnome-shell desktops.

Besides this, local users can login graphically without any problems and ldap users can login via the shell or through ssh (thus indicating that ldap works!).

The same problem arises while performing after fresh install of 11.10 + configuration following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LDAPClientAuthentication

The only related error I see in the log is similar to the one mentioned here:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libpam-ldap/+question/107363

Any clue about where the problem can be is welcome!

I have exactly the same problem and symptoms after upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10

And after an unsuccessful try to login (via gdm) the following processes owned by the corresponding user keep on running:
/bin/sh /etc/gdm/Xsession gnome-session --session=ubuntu-2d
gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.interface toolkit-accessibility

I found a workaround that fixes this problem:

If u comment all lines with # in this file: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90qt-a11y

then u can loging to the system like normal, but QT_ACCESSIBILITY will be turned off.

I use Ubuntu Gnome Shell remix, have the same bug.
R. Grandia's workaround does not work with me.

How can I get out meaningful logs?
