Kubuntu 11.10 effects fail after update

Asked by pst007x

The following error message is shown when enabling OpenGL (Disable functionality checks is ticked):

Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.

Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advanced options, especially changing the compositing type.

Kubuntu 11.10 has no xorg.conf file to edit.

XRender half works, however when compositing type is set to OpenGL all effects fail. This only happened after a recend upgrade.

I think it may have something to do with the wrong video driver being used, but how do I change it and force the correct driver?

Any help?

Thanks

Found the issue.

When I updated it installed the Nvidia driver, this seemed to screw up my intel driver. I removed all Nvidia references in synaptic package manager (plus any other video driver) and

Removed the following packages:
libgl1-mesa-swx11

Installed the following packages:
libgl1-mesa-glx (7.11-0ubuntu3)

Rebooted and my issue resolved, my graphics card is now recognised... The issue is with Ubuntu video installer, for some reason it decided to ignore that I am using intel, and install additional drivers.... strange.... probably will be sorted in time. I am using Beta after all :-s

Thanks
