While upgrading to ubuntu 10.10, i restarted the computer and now screen stuck with sign flying around that says; SYNC. OUT OF RANGE WHAT DID I DO.], WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Asked by Dan Trapp

i HAVE BEEN USING UBUNTU 10.04 FOR QUITE A WHILE NOW, BUT KEPT SEEING THAT THE NEXT UPGRADE WAS AVAILABLE. THIS MORNING I DECIDED TO INSTALL IT. WHEN IT FINISHED IT SAID THAT IT NEEDED TO RESTART IN ORDER TO LET THE CHANGES TAKE PLACE, SO I RESTARTED THE COMPUTER. A FEW SECONDS AFTER THE SCREEN SHOWED SIGNS OF RESTARTING, THE SCREEN WENT BLACK WITH THIS 6"X3" RED AND WHITE NOTE FLOATING AROUND THE SCREEN THAT SAYS; sync, out of range until this happened, i thought the upgrade went very well. not only do i have no clue what happened , i have even less of an idea of what to do about it. I'm really hoping that someone there knows what has happened, and how to fix it. thanks in advance, DAN TRAPP

I would use the fail-safe terminal and try to manually put a xorg.conf file.
10.04 does not use xorg.conf files, but the system will automatically detect if a file is created.

Very useful information can be found here:

and this is your fix:

I really hope that helps.
Good luck.
