desktop background is out of place after startup

desktop background is out of place after startup... I have a 3 inch space between the background image and the launcher and it wont change even after rebooting

What resolution is the display?

Can you also give the output of:

sudo lshw -C display; lsb_release -a; xrandr

display is 1280 by 800 i have no idea what is the other thing u asking.
when i was about to type in this comment i completely lost my cursor....i restarted and now the back-round picture is fine so as the cursor.... wired
