I have a dell mini 9 running ubuntu 8.04. Turned it on this morning and it says Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode your screen and graphics card could not be detected correctly. To use higher resolutions visual effects or multiple screens you have to configure the display yourself. at the bottom it says configure-shut down and continue. if i hit continue the dash page loads but cant connect to internet. please help me fix this!!!

Hardy is no longer supported on the desktop. Please upgrade to Lucid or later

Use another system and grab the Natty ISO (Or Lucid if LTS is desirable to you). MD5 test the ISO then make the instal media the same way you did for Hardy. Install as normal.

First use a Windows computer that has a working CD-RW drive (it can burn CD's) and visit the Ubuntu site to locate and download the Ubuntu 10.04 Remix iso file. This will take awhile.

Next, on the Windows computer you need to insert a blank unused CD-R into the CD-RW drive. It should bring up the software to burn a CD. You might have to start an application program such as Nero.

Next copy the Ubuntu 10.04 Remix iso file to the temporary pane of the CD burning software. Then issue the command to burn data but not as a single packed file. You may have to try a few times to get the iso image you need. (This image has to be bootable so it will start from a cold start of the Mini-9.)

Now you need to locate an USB external CD-Player. (Office stores sell them for about $30.) Plug it into the Dell Mini-9, open the drive (you may have to start the Mini-9 to power it on) and insert the CD-R you made.

Power off the Mini-9 and then restart. With luck it will allow you to install the Ubuntu 10.04 Remix for the Mini-9.
Use all available storage for the install.

Once you get Ubuntu installed, connect to the Internet and get all updates. (There are lots of them.)

This procedure worked for my Dell Mini-9.

Can you help with this problem?
