Ubuntu 11.04 ASUS EP121 multitouch eGalax support

Asked by Christopher Rushton

Ubuntu 10.10, Fedora 14 etc could take advantage of the eGalax PCAP from ASUS EP121 with the drivers provided by eGalax. Although, multitouch was lacking. Now with the release of Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) support is non-existent and the default evdev drivers render the mouse device useless if touch is attempted.

I have tried the hid-multitouch included with the kernel and various other (obsolete) usb touchscreen modules also included with Ubuntu all to no avail. The method used to load the modules was with udev rules spawning a script to load the vendor and product ids into the modules new_id param under sys.

Are there any plans to have the Egalax (0eef:a001) work with Ubuntu?
Is there anything that can be done in the interm?
