monitor blacks out dell laptop e1505

I have a Dell laptop Inspiron E1505 I just upgrade 11.1. Monitor flickers and darkens out barely can see screen with a light? HELP
how can I go back to 10.04. I'm not a computer wizard I need layman's terms to fix!

Try adding the boot option:

nomodeset
