video drivers for dell inspiron 1100

Asked by uly lambinicio

I am new to Linux and just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on a dell inspiron 1100. I need detailed instructions on how to configure the video display settings. Sometimes it boots to a blank screen or low resolution . I read many of the forums but still can't figure out how to edit xorg.conf. It doesn't seem to exists. I found org.conf. Is this the same thing? How do edit and correct the video settting to 1024 x 768? Any help is appreciated. thank you.

Go to System->Administration->Hardware Drivers and check the box to enable the restricted drivers for your graphics card if the option is provided.

There is no Hardware Drivers when I go to System > Administration. Could "hardware drivers" be located somwhere else? Thanks

I had to deal with the same laptop and it exhibited the same problem. To solve this: go into the bios; change the setting there to output to only LCD (it was outputing to both CRT and LCD by default); save settings and exit. This worked for me and the display worked fine at the native resolution. Good luck :D

Can you help with this problem?
