monitor: unknown

Asked by JC

Hi:

I am very new to Ubuntu and Linux in general, so I really have no idea how to fix this fairly simple problem. When I go to monitor preferences (Systems>Preferences>Monitor) I get that the monitor is unknown. When I click "detect monitor" nothing happens. Luckily for me the resolution is fine, so I don't have to worry about changing it. I am assuming is the monitor driver not being recognized. I am running version 10.10 in a Dell Inspiron 700m Laptop. Windows is also installed on the computer and it recognizes the monitor and the driver, in case that it is relevant. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks,

JC
