When the screen goes off after a few minutes, the mouse loses the pointer and will not come back without a reboot

Asked by bccynic

If I leave the computer for as little as 10 minutes the screen blanks out as it is setup, but when I sign in again to activate the screen and computer, the mouse pointer does not show on screen. This is a recent development out of nowhere.

I have run System Testing and indicated that the mouse was not working properly, but no corrections were offered.

Ubuntu 10.10 has this problem when using the default video drivers on my HP v3000, but when using the Nvidia drivers, the problem does not appear. Try using another video driver if available.

I am cautiously optimistic. I did install the NVidia driver, and after some hours and a few computer sleep sessions the mouse pointer has not disappeared.
I'll follow up if it fails again but I think it is fixed, thanks!
