Multiple monitors

Asked by Pete Burton

I have 2 22" monitors connected both running 1680x1050 resolution which i set up using System\preferences\monitors. The default monitor is fine but the desktop only extends to about a quarter the way onto the second monitor, the rest of the display looks like a random picture of memory (lots of dots and dashes). moving a window over this area displays the window ok but doesn't refresh the desk top when it moves (Leaves multiple images of the window over the display). i used xrandr -q to look at the setup which shows
pete@pete-desktop:~$ xrandr -q

Take a look at this. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/meta-gnome2/+bug/521492

It looks like dual screen features are of no interest to ubuntu developers.

In my ignorance i expected to see the same response as in Bill's alternative product where the re-assignment of the desktop was shown as the changes are made. Seems all i had to do was accept the corrupt screen as ok then re-boot. I chickened out of accepting and re-booting as i wasnt confident that i would have a display at re-start. Anyway that seems to be sorted now but thanks for the link.
