XUbuntu 12.10 shows mountable volume twice

Asked by Maarten Jacobs

I upgraded to XUbuntu 12.10 from 12.04; since I did it shows my old Windows partition twice on the desktop (as an unmounted 74GB Filesystem).

I found some instructions here:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/207296/after-upgrade-to-xubuntu-12-10-i-have-2-mount-points-for-each-partition

for a non-persistent work-around.

However I have not been able to find a persistent work-around, so the problem re-appears every time I reboot.

It would appear this is a bug - but I couldn't find one. Does anybody know if a bug should be open on this, and if so whether one exists already? Does anybody know what causes this behavior, and what I can do to prevent it?

Does it happen if you make a new user and mount the device there?

Yes - the same behavior happens for other users.

Note that the visible icons indicate a filesystem that's available to be mounted. The filesystem is not actually mounted.

I suggest you report a bug, if a fresh user with vanilla settings has the same issue then there is a bug

If it's still in proposed then you can wait or enable the proposed repo in your sources, update sources, upgrade the xfdesktop4 package, then disable proposed repo in your sources

(will mark your report a dupe of the above
The current simple fix for the duped Desktop icons in lieu of upgrading is to press F5
