After loading xubuntu, I restarted the system, and lost the menu bars, how can I get them back?

Asked by thedarkknightreigns

I am a new user with Linux based OS's. I loaded xubuntu 8.10 I my other system. The installation was great. But the problem is... I shut the PC down for the night, started it back up, and am now missing the 2 menu bars at the top and bottom of my screen. To make matters worse, I tried accessing the menu bar option under settings, and will not open. So I tried a reinstall, and the problem persists, HELP!

Don't be worry.

You need start Xubuntu and when do you see a "desktop paper" press this key combinations:

Alt + F2

Then open a windows execute program. In the dialogue box type this:

x-terminal-emulator

And the button execute to do it.

This open Terminal and need forced command this in Terminal

xfce4-panel

The panel magical restart otherwise, Please do not close Terminal.

Now you need reboot your PC and sure do not close terminal, and the options marked "save the changes to next session"

Note: is a very well know "bug" in Xubuntu, Sorry. This occured generally after Firefox crash.

Hope this help you.

Thank you Jacob S.
It did the job. I thought it was something I did to cause that problem. I'm going to keep this handy, I have a few friends that are also new to xubuntu and ubuntu and find these little things very helpful
Thank you again
