Did you install the server OS or the desktop OS? There is a difference.

Bleating about going back to windows doesn't make anyone want to help you any more or less. It's not useful information to your issue. Please just stick to the issue you are having. It makes questions clearer.

Thanks

I have installed the server iso, i have gone to the launchpad and I'm in
the process of downloading the desktop iso, can i write it to a dvd while I
am using the 14.04 live cd to access the Internet?.or can i copy a desktop
iso I've downloaded from the server cd which i have installed alongside
14.04 to a dvd so that i can install the desktop iso over the server one,

If you wanted a desktop OS why install the server OS?

I believe you need the CD you booted to in the drive. If you have 2 optical drives this is easy. You may be able to get away with loading the CD burner software then ejecting the CD and putting in a blank media.

You can also install using USB. I assume your BIOS can do this. You can do this when booted to the live CD desktop without issue.

If you do burn a CD remember to burn as slowly as possible.

Can you help with this problem?
