I am getting a virus message when I try to log in with xchat

Asked by vlad1

I get the following message when I try to log into irc chat....I am running fresh install of Ubuntu 9.1; disk was downloaded and burned on a brand new computer; using xchat.
It can't be right as Linux should not have viruses, plus I did a complete install, no dual boot.

AUTO [1] Infected with a virus or trojan, please clean your system. Cleaner @ http://www.moosoft.com (P339).
* Closing Link: vlad1 by SantaAna.CA.US.Undernet.org (G-lined)
* Disconnected (Remote host closed socket).
 Cycling to next server in UnderNet...

I installed, reinstalled, ran live disc only, and still cannot log it. Tried Linux Mint, Fedora, same error.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

It lloks like this particular IRC server hat been set up or hacked an modified just to make people believe they are infected with something and buy some useless software presented to them.
Since there is no way to check via IRC if a computer is infected and there are very very few viruses / trojans for Linux, I am sure they just fooled you (and maybe many others).

Can you help with this problem?
