How do I change nickname in xchat

I tried to use xchat. My name was already in use. How can I change the nickname I use. When xchat first came up I could have changed the nickname but that screen will not come up again. I completely removed xchat and reinstalled but the name chage screen still did not come up

XChat menu -> Network list
opens the the first window I believe.

You can register it were no one but you can use it.

Also if you want to change nicks on the fly, just type /nick NICKGOESHERE.

I found a way to change my nickname by edit --> preferences and the screen came up with nickname. I changed my nickname and it worked. Another example of RTFM.
