Clear Duplicates without deleting watched status?

Asked by Nathan

I had some duplicates that had appeared and when I googled around looking for a way to delete duplicates and I ran accross the option to "Clean Video Library" So I thought perfect and when I did that it did in fact delete all duplicates however all the tv I watched and marked as watched decided to become unwatched.... It is a bit of a hassle to the users of XBMC. It would be much appreciated if you could tell me how to delete duplicates without changing watch status. Thank you.

Are there any bugs reported?

I reported that as a bug due to the fact I "believe" that it is supposed to be just to delete any type of ghost files appearing but not to change the status the way it does. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xbmc/+bug/1277780 Am I doing this right?

It sounds like you're dealing with a situation in XBMC (now known as Kodi) where using the "Clean Video Library" option to delete duplicates also reset the watch status of your TV shows. Unfortunately, the "Clean Video Library" function in Kodi is designed to perform a comprehensive cleanup of your library, which can include resetting certain metadata like the watch status.

To delete duplicates without changing the watch status, you might need to take a slightly different approach. Here's what you can try:

Manually Identify Duplicates: Instead of using the "Clean Video Library" function, manually identify the duplicate episodes or items in your library. Navigate through your library and note down the duplicates you want to remove.

Remove Duplicates Manually: Once you've identified the duplicates, manually remove them from your library. This can typically be done by right-clicking on the item and selecting the appropriate option to remove it from the library. This process should not affect the watch status of your other items.

Update Library: After removing duplicates, manually update your library to ensure that the changes take effect. This can usually be done by going to the library settings and selecting the option to update or refresh the library.

Re-scan for Metadata: If necessary, you might want to re-scan your library for metadata. This can help Kodi correctly recognize the remaining items and their watch statuses.

Remember, the process might vary slightly depending on the version of Kodi you're using and any additional add-ons or customizations you have. Always consider creating a backup of your library before making significant changes to avoid any unexpected data loss.

If manual removal isn't feasible due to the number of duplicates, you might want to explore third-party Kodi add-ons or scripts that specialize in managing duplicates. These tools could provide more control over the cleanup process and potentially help you retain the watch statuses. by https://www.shopbot.com.au/store/ozmosis/

To solve this issue in simple terms, follow these steps:

1. **Backup**: Before making any changes, it's a good idea to back up your XBMC library just in case anything goes wrong.

2. **Use Add-Ons**: Try using add-ons or plugins designed to help you manage your media library. Some of them can identify and remove duplicates without affecting your watch status.

3. **Manual Deletion**: If add-ons don't work or you prefer a manual approach, you can identify duplicates by comparing file names or sizes. Once identified, delete the duplicate files one by one, being careful not to touch the original ones.

4. **Library Refresh**: After deleting duplicates, refresh your library within XBMC. This should help XBMC recognize the changes without altering your watch status.

Remember to proceed with caution and back up your library before attempting any changes to avoid any potential data loss
