I can't find a PPA but I noticed it is very young and not long past release. Ubuntu is not a rolling release distribution so packages will most likely not be updated as soon as a new version of something is out.

If bug and security fixes are significant then the package will be updated. If the gains are few then more urgent packages will be given time and effort to make those better.

If you report a bug it may prompt the developers to check the change logs to see if the new version warrants immediate action, or if it will wait.

You are free to compile your own binaries. I recommend you install checkiinstall to make a deb of your efforts.

There is a significant bug fixed by 1.8.6. The bug was reported here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=447026

Run:

ubuntu-bug xbindkeys

And report the problem. Also post the Debian bug link you just gave so that the bug guys know it has been reported upstream
