Security issue due to No lauchpad.net version of X-Tile x-tile_3.3-0_all.deb

Asked by Marc Cox

Dear person,

X-Tile seems to work well for tiling, but there not being even a MD5 checksum or a better SHA256 using $ sha256sum is very worrisome because :

-- BUGGY version 2.5-3 X-Tile can still be downloaded via Synaptic for Ubuntu 16

-- Security risks with working version of X-Tile because can ONLY WGET it from another website.
-- Askubuntu points Unbuntu 20.10 users to Launchpad for X-Tile x-tile_3.3-0_all.deb here @@ https://askubuntu.com/a/1029203/792234
but "x-tile does NOT have any download files registered with Launchpad."

So can you please fix "x-tile does NOT have any download files registered with Launchpad."
and also provide a checksum verification for $ sha256sum ?

Regards,
Marc

see the publishing history https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/x-tile/+publishinghistory
At the time when Ubuntu bionic was published, the available version of x-tile depended on obsolete packages, and so it was not published for bionic and later releases. see also https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=885956

Only now there is a new package with a new version in development for Ubuntu jammy (22.04).

The Ubuntu release and packaging strategy does not contain plans to retroactively publish a package in an older Ubuntu release.

If you see a security issue due to a bug in the version for Ubuntu xenial (16.04) and/or trusty (14.04), then please create a bug report with sufficient details.

If you are looking for a version of x-tile for Ubuntu releases different from those listed in https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/x-tile , you can try the PPA https://launchpad.net/~giuspen/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
