Dial up Modem will not connect - No Dial Tone

Asked by srikumar

I have installed UB 810 on a friends computer which has a Motorola SM 56 Data Fax Modem. Using scanModem.gz gave the following results:-
Class=0703
PCIDEV=1057:3052
SUBSYS=1057:3020
IRQ=18
IDENT=slmar

As instructed the slamr-2.6.27-7-generic.tar.gz was downloaded and setup. Thereafter wvdial was run and the modem was configured.

On dialing the modem gives out the correct dialing tones and tries to connect to the ISP but ends up with the message NO DIAL TONE.

I tried the same number by telephone and do get the connection tone (not the telephone ring) so the ISP phone line seems to be OK.

Any suggestions?
thanks

I think the problem was with the Modem Card.
I've replaced it with an external dial-up modem and am now able to dial and connect with the ISP.

thanks
