wpasupplicant version 2.7 availability?

Asked by Jan Fuchs

Since debian already distribute wpasupplicant v2.7 in buster (testing) and sid (unstable) [0], what are the plans for ubuntu to follow?
I'm missing the SAE authentication (WPA3) dreadfully, which I want to put into production use as soon as possible.

Ubuntu is no rolling release, so the versions currently available for the supported Ubuntu versions will probably not be upgraded.
For Ubuntu 19.04 (currently in development) most of the freeze dates are also already over, so I do not expect that Ubuntu 19.04 will still receive wpa version 2.7 before its publication.
What can be expected is that Ubuntu 19.10 will contain wpa 2.7 (or even higher).
