I was trying to run an old dosgame with wine, and it messed up my display now is cropped to 640x480

Asked by Keith M

I downloaded an old dosgame and was trying to run it with wine, and it messed up my display. Right now I'm in 640x480, but it actually cropped the screen. So it's like I have a high resolution, just zoomed in, I can't get to either of the 'start bars'. But I can access command prompt and firefox (obviously). I am using an ATI card, if I knew what the command to get to the catalyst controller was I could just do that via command line. But I don't know that command. I really really need help solving this, is there anywhere I can access my 'program files' executables/.sh files aside of the startbar? Thanks so much for any help.
(I have restarted many times and that hasn't helped)

Hello Keith ,

have you already tried checking your /etc/X11/xorg.conf ? There you can find various settings about the Xorg-server , including available resolutions configurations .
Additionally I didn't understand what do you mean with a 'way to access your program files executables' .. If you want to run an application installed in your system and you're able to access the terminal (as you said) , simply type its name in it , for example firefox , opera , xine , etc .
Finally , which DE are you using ? Have you already tried using your DE application for managing resolutions ?

Thanks for your help, thankfully I was able to access my settings, by going to 'usr/bin/gnome-control-center. There I was able to adjust my display settings. Thanks for your time anyway!
