how to run an exe file... i get download error

Asked by mike

I get a failure every time i try to download anything! This is what it says.....[/home/user/.cache/.fr-y5GOYS/SmartInstaller.exe]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/user/.cache/.fr-y5GOYS/SmartInstaller.exe or
/home/user/.cache/.fr-y5GOYS/SmartInstaller.exe.zip, and cannot find /home/user/.cache/.fr-y5GOYS/SmartInstaller.exe.ZIP, period.
I know nothing about this as i'm just a basic user. Can anyone help! My e-mail is <email address hidden>. Thank you

No one will email you. The WHOLE point of a forum is to share information and answers with others, not to recruit people to start an email to-and-fro so dont hold your breath for emails to flood in. ALL answers will be here on the forum so people experiencing the same issue can see the solution as well.

the .exe file you have is a windows program and not a linux app. Why do you have that file? Do you know what it is for or how it came about?

Sorry for the email thing. I was trying to download a poker site, but apparently, all the sites i try and download, must require windows, which i dont have. Thanks for your response!

Then you will need wine:

sudo apt-get install wine

You may want to check to appdb to make sure it will work. Not all applications will run:
http://appdb.winehq.org/

If it is known to work (or you just want to try it) you can then run:

wine /home/user/.cache/.fr-y5GOYS/SmartInstaller.exe
