I would use "Transmission Bit-Torrent" that's already included in a standard install of ubuntu.

Applications - Internet - Transmission

Usually when you download the torrent it is 2 files. The first file is a ".torrent" file that downloads very very fast. You then drop this onto the torrent program or add it or open it - i prefer just drag-and-drop. Then the main file itself gets downloaded, this can take quite a while.

It is a good plan to try a couple of different torrent-client programs such as uTorrent, Transmission and so on because trying a few makes it clearer how to use them.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

You're welcome, nicely done :))

I think torrenting is a great way of helping the wider community. It is particularly helpful to torrent Slackware
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=slackware
or some of the slackware-based distros such as Wolvix (particularly their Hunter edition) and slax
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=wolvix
http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=slax
Slackware is the longest running distro still being actively developed and upgraded. It seems that most distro families forked off from it and yet it's still under-resourced and keeping going mostly through the dedication of 1 person, Patrick Volkerding! It does have quite a decent community but nothing like as large as Ubuntu or even Debian :)

Generally it's considered good etiquette to upload a file at least twice if you've downloaded it once. Some sites will throttle-back your download speed if your history with them shows less than that ratio and many will certainly throttle it back if you are not allowing uploading while you download. I tend to aim to get the first and last bits of the files first so that people can see me uploading files i still haven't completely finished downloading yet! :)

Ooops, i just realised my torrenting client isn't even open. When i opened it i found it's been closed so long that its pointing at the wrong folder and one of the alpha testing files has been fully released so i'm just getting the full release of an african distro "kongoni" now.

Thanks John :)
