Not sure if it does, but why not just use Pidgin. It's installed by default on Ubuntu and works with most IM protocols. Seems a much less messy way to go.

Try to run the yahoo messenger from the command line, and post the output.
To do that, run something that should look like
"wine /home/yourusername/.wine/drive_c/Programm\ Files/Yahoo/yahoomessenger.exe > wineoutput.txt
in the terminal.

I'm not sure i can help but i quickly used the search tool in WineHq and got these
http://winehq.org/search?cx=partner-pub-0971840239976722%3Aw9sqbcsxtyf&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=UTF-8&q=yahoo+messenger#1013

The main Wine page for hunting through how to install different applications is
http://appdb.winehq.org/

Hopefully Jonas will be back to give some advice based on your results but until then it might be worth looking through some of the search results from WineHq. If you do get a good answer from there please post a brief or a link to the page and mark this one as "Solved".

Thanks, good luck and regards from
Tom :)

You might be able to get more help with this in the Wine forums than from in here
http://appdb.winehq.org/

There should be a few pages that deal with Yahoo Messenger in there. I use Yahoo Email and recently they made a radical change that doesn't work very well with linux so some of the Wine Guides may be out-dated by their recent changes. Using their forums should help get an answer though.

Wine is something that needs a lot of work fairly constantly so contributing to their forums (even by asking questions that are awkward for them) helps the entire linux community - not just Ubuntu. Any help there is much appreciated :)

Regards and good luck from
Tom :)

Lol, and using the Yahoo forums might get you some help but don't hold your breath! I totally flumoxed them all by mentioning linux in there - i think the best response i got was along the lines of "my cats breath smells funny" rofls

LOL!  I will try asking questions in the wine forums hopefully I can get yahoo messenger to function properly.  If not I can always use Pidgin as my second choice.  Thanks for your help.  Bye!

I honestly don't think anyone will get anywhere with Wine. I posted my problem, that I needed help on there forum. So far only one person responded and this was there response to my question. Wine for a chicken and swiss cheese dish? I'm not a fan of drinking wine, but I enjoy the flavor it adds to dishes when it is used in the cooking process. I'm planning on making a chicken dish with swiss cheese for dinner tonight and would like to substitute a dry white wine for the water my recipe calls for. Problem is, I have no idea what to look for. I know the general rule is not to cook with a wine you wouldn't drink. Whats a girl to do if she doesn't drink wine in the first place? I thought that was a bit childish, rude, considering I really needed help.

Lol, i'm guessing that was in the Yahoo forum rather than the Wine forum! It's quite odd because i think the main Yahoo Servers are *nix based but their user-base seem completely clueless. Getting through to their proper techie department seems impossible though.

Good luck and i hope the Wine forum soon posts some answers that help you with this.
I wish i could really but good luck and regards from
Tom :)
