*.exe files are built for Windows and not for Ubuntu. exe files don't run on Ubuntu.

If you're going to execute exe files, maybe wine can help. wine is included in the Synaptic package manager.

Hope it helps.

utorrent run well under wine but please is better to run native software to manage/download the .torrent files.
i suggest you Deluge or the already installed Transmission

if you want to install Wine then utorrent windows executable please install Wine first...

----------------------------
Linux does not natively run any windows exe files.
In order to run windows files you will have to run them with a compatibility layer called Wine.

http://www.winehq.org/

To install wine in Ubuntu

Please first enable the universe repository:

Open System → Administration → Software sources → [ Tab Ubuntu software ]
enable "Community Maintained open source software (universe)"
Close and confirm the repository reload.

Then open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install wine

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then there are a lot of howto on the net:

Hope this helps

By the way, Transmission is one of the best BitTorrent clients out there. Only BitTorrent official client and Vuze support as many features.

To install Deluge on your pc (and usually most of Ubuntu software) you need to use standard Ubuntu methods to install software.

A) Deluge is into Universe repository so you must enable it...

Open System → Administration → Software sources → [ Tab Ubuntu software ]
enable "Community Maintained open source software (universe)"
Close and confirm the repository reload.

B) You can use the menu item Applications → Add/remove very easy to use...

You can also use terminal... now we use terminal here... ( but i repeat you can easily use the App→Add/remove menu)

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:
(if the system ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter)

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install deluge-torrent

Hope this helps

Hello Matthew,

Every installed application will add a menu entry in order to launch it (well, there are some exceptions but that's not the concern :p).

Deluge is a BitTorrent client, and as it's network related, it should be in Applications->Network->Deluge.

I seriously recommand you to try Transmission, though :) Transmission supports UPnP and NAT-PMP, data encryption, DHT peer exchange, and many other things.

It's sudo, not sudu.

None of your questions are dumb. We just need to figure out how to
answer them ahead of time so you don't have to ask them :-)
