Help Installing wine in Ubentu Dapper Drake 6.06

Asked by BobRafalovich

Hi,

I'm new to Lenux. I need to run some of my windows programs on Linux.
I need to figure out how to down laod and install wine to Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06.
I looked on the Ubuntu CD and did not find the program.
Also the wine web site indicated it was best to uninstall any old version of wine.
Does my version of Ubuntu already have wine installed?
If not I need to get some links or information on how to down load and install wine
on my lenux system.

Also, there seems to be a lot of contraversy about how well wine works.
What is the best program for running windows application on linux?

Bob

Wine is not included in the cd.
For Ubuntu Dapper (6.06) run the following in Terminal
sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/dapper.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list

Then, you can install Wine from WineHQ like it were any other package, such as by using the Synaptic Package Manager under System->Administration. Alternatively, you can install from the terminal by running 'sudo apt-get update' to update APT's package information and then 'sudo apt-get install wine'.
After that you run winecfg in Terminal
