please help i cant run wine

Asked by Danielle Mosby

I keep getting this when i try to install wine in my software sources:

"PG error: http://wine.budgetdedicated.com intrepid Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 58403026387EE263Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/universe/binary-lpia/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80] Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."

 what do i do?

And also when i try it in the terminal i get this:

 "Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
wine: Depends: libasound2 (> 1.0.17) but 1.0.15-3ubuntu4 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

Thanks

Wine is available from the ubuntu repositories also

I don't know the budgetdedicated website but it seems they may be having problems with their archive for intrepid
you might try to use their hardy repositories in stead of their intrepid one but I'm not sure I can really recommend it

the official ubuntu wine can most easily be installed by using Add/Remove in the menu
as the WineHQ archives seem to be broken for intrepid , I'd recommend removing them from your software sources
System->Administration->Software Sources->Third part software
uncheck (or delete) the WineHQ software repositories (just unchecking them means you'll be able to reactivate them easily if you'd want to)

IYCC mirrors the WineHQ repository as well.

Add this to your sources.list:

       deb http://mirror.iycc.net/wine hardy main

We've noticed that for whatever reason, the best Wine seems to be the
package from the release before the current Ubuntu release at any given
time.

In other words, when Ubuntu was on Gutsy, wine's Fawn release seemed to work
better. Similarly, we found wine Gutsy better on Ubuntu Hardy machines. The
current best wine seems to be hardy. Perhaps each vintage of wine (the
software), like wine (the drink), needs to age a bit to reach its full
potential.

In many ways, running a Windows program on a Linux computer is no less a
miracle than turning water into wine. It wasn't until towards the end of the
party did the miracle happen at Cana. But, as the wine steward said to the
groom that day, "You've saved the best wine for the last!"
