You have to mount the CD and run the setup program. You can do this through the file browser. Which Ubuntu flavor are you running? Once you see the setup program. Double clicking should launch it in Wine.

Try going to the app menu, go to the System submenu. Do you have Dolphin? If so, click on it. Your CD should be on the left side. Click on it and you should see the setup program.

Found the problem. I changed the jumper on my lite-on cd/dvd rom from slave to cable select. the cd rom was alone on its own ide cable. for whatever reason, 8.04 didnt seem to care. but 8.10 wants cable select in order to detect the cd rom.

You can disconnected the drive, changed jumper settings or Switched to another cable (turn off your computer before do this) ...
It's better to contact your hardware vendor how to do this ...
Or contact the shop where you bought the computer ...

Once you solved your CD drive problem, the install procedure is as follows :
- Open your file explorer (In Ubuntu it's nautilus, Xubuntu Thunar, Kubuntu Dolphin, don't use Dolphin if you're not under Kubuntu ;p)
- Go to your CD directory (in nautilus/Thunar it's listed on the left, don't know about Dolphin).
- Search for a "setup.exe" and double click it (or right click the autorun.inf > Open with > "wine", it should work too)
- Do as under windows in order to install your game
I suggest you look here about different versions of Age of Mythology, how they run, known bugs and workarounds : http://
Have fun !

Just to clarify things a bit.
Step 1
Ubuntu itself cannot run software designed for Microsoft Windows for obvious reasons, but the "support-layer" Wine makes this possible for most software.
So, in order to run software designed for Microsoft Windows in Ubuntu (or Linux in general) you need to install Wine.
This can either be done by opening the "Ubuntu Software Center" or "Add/Install Programs..." (depending on the version of Ubuntu you have installed) and searching for and installing wine, or by opening a terminal (Programs-
sudo apt-get install
If you want to install a more up to date, but potentially more unstable version, take a look at http://
When you have installed Wine, you are now able to install and run Windows software.
Step 2
When you insert the CD, it should open a window displaying its files, if not, open your CD-drive from the Places menu.
Now, right-click on the setup.exe (or similar) and select Run with->Wine (or Run with->Wine Windows Program Loader).
The installation should proceed pretty much as in Windows.
If you have any problems, or wish to know more about workarounds or tricks, please see the link posted by Steve Dodier:

Ubuntu is a very nice operating system, but it can be tricky to get used to working in a way different that Windows. I hope you will find it easier to use after a while and feel free to ask more questions if you run into problems.
Also, remember that the trouble you are having right now is due to the game not being available for Linux - the fact that you have the possibility to install it anyway is a testament to freedom in the Linux world.
If you need to run more Windows software, please consider writing to the developers of the software and asking them for a version for Linux.
