No sound using WINE

Asked by Luke

Unfortunately this might be several questions.

I am trying to get Starcraft to work with WINE and I mostly have. However it, and other programs I've installed through WINE, have no sound. I go to the sound properties in the winecfg and have tried them all, the OSS, ALSA, etc. None make a sound when I press test sounds, I even tried virtual or emulation thing, i forget what it's called. Nothing, but sound works fine in ubuntu itself. Also in starcraft there are two mouses, one just sits in the middle of the screen and the other I have control of. This is not a big deal compared to sound though. Oh and battle.net says it doesn't recognize the OS and therefore some reason won't work.

The other thing is I've noticed that when I boot up, it is giving me duplicate listings of ubuntu, it says it 3 different times now, along with the three safe modes. They all work when I choose them, but it just isn't pretty. Is there a way to clean up the selection in the boot up? Also whenever i try to reboot or shut down the screen turns black but the system does not power down or reboot it just sits there until I hold down the power button. I may format the drive and reinstall unbuntu anyway but let me know if there is a quick fix for it. Ok well sorry for the long questions I hope someone can help. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to linux but I find the OS very cool and I want to show it off.

Hy Luke!

I think you're a bit in trouble with Ubuntu. Let me give you some advices... ;-)

1] Simply have a look at this page (http://www.winehq.org/site/search?cx=partner-pub-0971840239976722%3Aw9sqbcsxtyf&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=UTF-8&q=Starcraft#907) and search for a solution there.

2] The problem with the three listings is known to me as double listings, but I don't know a solution for this yet. In case you were refering to the starters within the applications menue I recommend you to search within these folders:

  /home/<user>/.local/share/applications/ {except defaults.list}
  /home/<user>/.config/menus/
  /home/<user>/.wine/drive_c/Windows/profiles/All Users/Startmenü/Programme/
  /home/<user>/.wine/drive_c/Windows/profiles/<user>/Startmenü/Programme/

3] Try pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and tell us what happens then.
