Maybe, try install them via Wine -- https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wine

You could try this, (though not tried it myself)
http://www.mrbass.org/linux/ubuntu/dvdshrink/

Alternatively you could install XP with Virtualbox and run that in Ubuntu and try installing your programs within your XP virtualbox. I have installed XP within Ubuntu and it works very well. About the only thing so far I have not managed to get to properly work is Nero.

I find nowadays that it is so rare to use anything that is Windows, there is usually a Linux equivalent that does the job (I am not a game player though).

Yes many of these work through wine.
I would suggest using wine 1.0 or above.

I have tested
DVD Shrink
DVD Decrypter
imgburn
DVD Flick

They all worked properly

I have heard that foobar works, but haven't tried it
