can i make ubuntu support windows applications?

i rebooted my computer. i had windows XP , i did a back up for some applications. i installed Ubuntu instead of windows , and now every time I'm trying to open those applications , they are not working. instead of downloading Linux supportive programs , any chance of making them work?

Windows applications will not work in Ubuntu Linux because Gnome what Linux runs is totally different frrom what Microsoft Windows is running sorry dude.

Many windows programs can be run in linux with Wine.

How well the program runs, varies from application to application. Many programs will run under Wine - some flawlessly after install, some flawlessly after tweaking, some with minor bugs, and other will not at all. Please check this site for the specific application you are interested in.
