Wine Issue, Running Notepad++ on Ubuntu 8.04

Asked by Toasty

I'm trying to get Notepad++ to run under Ubuntu 8.04 [64-bit]...

I've tried to run it under Windows 2000, and XP "emulation", neither seem to work.

I'm running Wine 0.9.59
Installing Notepad++ 5.0

Below is a file showing the four errors that come up, in order of appearance.

I'm not very familiar with how Linux works, so any help here would be great.

According to many tutorials I've found online, it says simply to install it like normal, and the desktop will have an icon to launch it from.

Hm not sure, as I've used Notepad++ successfully in wine before.

But, give Geany a try. That's what broke my notepad++ in wine addiction - it works similarly because both use scintilla, but geany even offers some more powerful features.

With Wine versions 1.0.1 or greater Notepad++ will install and run almost 100%. To get all functionality download winetricks:
wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks

Install the comctl32 (native microsoft)

Otherwise when you right click on the Tabs nothing happens.

Thank you for trying to help.

I went back to Windows, as I know that operating system works and it supports nearly all of the market.

I understand this isn't an issue with the people who posted, but waiting this long for an answer is frankly pretty bad.

I won't be requiring any more feedback.

I'm sorry, but Notepad++ is not designed for Linux. Geany is the closest similar editor that features the same Scintilla interface and similar features.

I don't like to have to tab over every line, and there were a few other things I appreciate about Notepad++ more.

Another issue I had with Ubuntu is that my $100 video card was limited to 1024x768 in Ubuntu, yet I'm running it at 1920x1200 in XP now -- not sure why Ubuntu didn't offer any better graphics modes.

Windows Shares made accessing the linux folders a pain.

Nothing special about Ubuntu, the programs available for Windows, which may actually cost money, are more available. I mean, the racing game in the package manager -- that's like a new feature in Windows 3.1...

Sorry, but I bought a system to use all of it's features -- not 1/10th of them.

Np, understandable. Not sure why your gfx wasn't working and windows shares
I can't comment on.
