Hi All, I am new to Linux ubuntu. Everything is fine so far except that I need to download a DVD that has a small office program on it for billing receipts etc. Unfortunately, I am not able to do so. Something about " No application suitable for automatic installation is available for handling this kind of file.? Can someone in real simple terms walk me through to a solution? Thanks. Dan

I am new to Linux OS and enjoy it very much. I am having a little trouble with downloading a DVD however. I get this message "No application suitable for automatic installation is available for handling this kind of file." Can someone walk me through the successful loading of this DVD?

What is the program?

You should be able to save it first rather than open it.

 Hi Forestpixie,

Thanks for the reply. The DVD is a small office program pack of 20 different tasks. Now that I think about it maybe it is to big to download. Either way I can't open it. I have wine but I am not exactly sure that is what is required for this application.

Not sure how to save it either. Sorry, but I am a newbie.

Dan

When you say downloading - are you saying that you are trying to install?

It's what sort of files they are which is important - windows files are blah.exe They won't work in linux without wine, if it is going to - which isn't necessarily always.

You can open the dvd with nautilus - navigate until you get to afile and get it's properties.

Really need to know what they are before I could even try and help.

Winform is an exe file you need to run it with wine...

To install wine...

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install wine

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Hope this helps
