Wine 1.6.2 to 1.7.32amd64 will not respond &/or delays keyboard connection. response

Asked by Amigad on 2014-10-23

My Starsky&Hutch game still delays keyboard response til 3 intros finish & Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault still only responds when 'Allow window manager to control the windows' is chosen & shows desktop while playing! Only playable in virtual-screen mode. Mouse works ok, but 'rectangle message window w/ red ring around' receives keyboard input only in full-screen mode.
Same problem happens in all wine versions installed since 1.6.2_amd64!

Did you check the Wine AppDb for compatibility?

Amigad (rams-smartchat) said : #2

This answer did not & will not solve my problem!

How so?

Wine is not perfect and some applications do not run. Some will not even install. Some applications will run better in Wine than in Windows.

The Wine AppDb not only tells you if an application will run but people also post guides and suggestions for settings in Wine to make things work

With this in mind how do you come to the conclusion you posted (albeit very abrupt and rude)...?

OOPS! I forgot ro mention in MOH:AA & some other games, I can only open a white rectangle with inner red rectangle line to enter text, does not move my soldier & my mouse can only aim my soldiers sight. I cannot move any!ime, unless I'm rarely extremely lucky.

Also, S&H, MOHAA have 2-3sec double audio at program startup.

Amigad, any problems you mention here about any wine application will have little effect in regards of getting fix. I highly recommend posting them in the correct place which is the bug tracker in the winehq site. That is where all bugs are posted about any wine issues and from the look of things, the developers there tend to solve the issues rather quickly. For me they solved basically all my bugs in less than a month (2 updates later).

If you post here is for questions more related on how to configure wine, install it or specific issues involving installing it on Ubuntu. Since your case is about a Windows app with an already installed and configure Wine, it is more helpful if you use the winehq site for it (Really they do a good job and reading bugs and solving them provided you post enough information about the bug).

In regards to Medal of Honor Allied Assault, I am not having any issues. I tested with Intel 4600 Hd and Nvidia 440. Both on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 (32 bit since in 64 bit it crashes on startup) and with Wine 1.7.22 through 1.7.28. In fact here is the link to it from an older test: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20075

For a wine installation guide I have provided one in http://askubuntu.com/questions/316025/how-do-i-install-and-configure-wine just in case.

Mouse issues might be found in http://askubuntu.com/questions/176422/mouse-issue-in-wine/176424#176424

For games like Starsky & Hutch which I do not have, there is another tester which looks like he has been testing the game for a long time https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=19879&iTestingId=74562

I tried to get into my wine account & failed again. Until I succeed, I'll just have to ask questions elsewhere.
